The ZWA LRC Service Provider TeamThe ZWA Local Resource Center team has over 30 years experience implementing ISO 14001 based EMSs (of which many have been certified) and 50 years experience in environmental regulations and compliance. It includes an RAB Certified ISO 14001 Lead auditor and Lead Auditor Trainer. The team's experience includes both public and private EMS implementation including wood products and high tech industries. In addition, technical assistance is also available through Green Chemistry and Green Engineering resources of ZWA and its network.
Dorothy Atwood is a Zero Waste Alliance associate who has taken clients as diverse as forest products companies, steel foundries, fiber optics facilities, food processors, U.S. Defense Air and multinational consumer products companies from gap analysis to ISO 14000 conformant EMS Dorothy conducts Environmental Management Systems training for a wide range of industries, including wood products, metals manufacturing, transportation, electronics, and food products. Training covers all elements of the ISO 14001 environmental management system standard and includes hands-on implementation exercises and case studies. implementation. Larry Chalfan is the Zero Waste Alliance Executive Director who, as President and CEO, led OKI Semiconductor Manufacturing through successful ISO 14001 certification. OKI became the first company in Oregon to achieve ISO 14001 certification. He now serves as executive director of the Zero Waste Alliance and uses his experience to help public agencies and private industry achieve sustainability through the application of tools such as EMSs, design for the environment and other tools of industrial ecology. He has assisted the State of Oregon's Publishing and Distributing (the State Printers) in the development of an ISO 14001 compliant EMS. Jeff Omelchuck is a Zero Waste Alliance associate who has led numerous public and industrial clients through EMS implementation and ISO 14001 certification. Some of his clients include: City of Eugene Public Works, Wastewater Division; Freightliner Corporation; Oregon State Department of Environmental Quality; Hyundai Semiconductor America. Jeff is one of 3 Registrar Accreditation Board (RAB) certified ISO 14001 Lead Auditors in Oregon (#E052229). He is a Senior Instructor for RAB accredited ISO 14001 Lead Auditor training with Applied Quality Systems, an RAB accredited training provider. He teaches lead auditor training courses 2-3 times per year and has held special training for public agencies such as the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. Wayne Rifer is a Zero Waste Alliance associate who has extensive experience working with public agency waste reduction and product stewardship. He was instrumental in the development of the Oregon State Department of Environmental Quality Green Permits program and provides consultation to public agencies from Washington, D.C. to Hawaii. Wayne provides key subject matter expertise on product stewardship and waste management issues. He currently facilitates public agency and private participation through the Western Electronic Product Stewardship Initiative (a subset of the National Electronic Product Stewardship Initiative). He works on an ad hoc basis with, chiefly, public agencies such as the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality Green Permit Program to find innovative intersections between regulation and sustainability. top of page
